Driving STEM Education Through Infrastructure Development

With Kenya’s education system shifting towards CBC, EPK’s investment in science and ICT infrastructure aims to enhance practical learning, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking among students. Leah Kibii Chirchir, EPK’s Company Director, emphasized the importance of these investments:

“We are keen on inclusive access to quality education, which is why we have invested in science laboratories for Junior Schools. This will enable learners to adopt a practical approach, incorporating critical thinking and problem-solving skills from an early stage.”

By establishing and improving school facilities, EPK ensures that students—especially those in underserved communities—gain access to modern learning environments that foster innovation and skills development.

Commitment to Special Needs and Inclusive Education

Beyond STEM education, EPK has demonstrated a strong commitment to inclusive education by supporting schools catering to special needs learners. The company has:

  • Provided instructional learning materials and classroom furniture for special needs students.
  • Assisted in setting up ECDE (Early Childhood Development Education) centers with appropriate learning resources.
  • Strengthened digital literacy by donating computers and assisting schools in establishing computer labs for both students and administrative use.

These efforts align with Kenya’s Vision 2030, which emphasizes equal education opportunities for all, ensuring that no student is left behind due to socio-economic or physical limitations.

Scholarships and Support for Underprivileged Students

EPK’s secondary school scholarship program aims to support underprivileged high achievers, allowing them to pursue education without financial barriers. The recent addition of four new scholars, including one special needs student, brings the total number of beneficiaries to seven.

Additionally, EPK’s long-term investment in bursaries and financial aid for children of employees underscores its broader mission to uplift communities through education.

Holistic Support for Student Well-being

Education goes beyond classrooms, and EPK has integrated holistic student support initiatives, including:

  • Life skills education for adolescent boys and girls.
  • Menstruation support programs to enhance school attendance among girls and promote gender equality.
  • Provision of essential learning materials to ensure that all students, regardless of background, have access to quality education.

The Bigger Picture: Sustainable Development and Economic Growth

EPK recognizes education as a key driver of long-term economic growth and social stability. By investing in schools, scholarships, and special needs programs, the company is catalyzing change within local communities. Mrs. Chirchir highlighted:

“Ultimately, education is our investment in the future. It contributes to social stability, improved health, and livelihoods, while driving economic growth. We aim to catalyze and promote lifelong learning opportunities in our communities.”

Looking Ahead: EPK’s Long-Term Vision for Education

With 15 schools already established within its estates, EPK continues to strengthen education infrastructure, digital access, and STEM learning. The company remains committed to:

  • Expanding scholarship programs to reach more students in need.
  • Upgrading digital learning resources in underserved schools.
  • Enhancing school facilities to meet CBC requirements.
  • Partnering with government and stakeholders to promote education access.

EPK’s ongoing investments in education demonstrate its commitment to empowering communities, fostering STEM innovation, and supporting inclusive learning. Through strategic partnerships and sustained investments, the company is playing a crucial role in shaping the future of education in Kenya.
