Retail trade real estate investment firm Primrose Management Limited has completed a major Kshs 400 million revamp of Nairobi’s Prestige Plaza, introducing significant upgrades to the shopping mall and unveiling what is now Kenya’s largest interactive Family Entertainment Centre.
The facelift included the remodeling of common areas, installation of escalators, upgraded lighting and washroom facilities, and the creation of new retail spaces. The renovation coincides with the opening of Playza, a 35,000-square-foot two-level entertainment hub designed to position Prestige Plaza as a key lifestyle and leisure destination.
Playza features a 12-lane Bowling Alley—four of which offer Hyper-Bowling by U.S.-based QubicaAMF—alongside themed Mind Golf courses, bumper cars, the Strike Arena Ninja Challenge, a kids’ zone, pool tables, karaoke and party rooms, and a bar and restaurant operated by The Daily Café & Bistro. The entertainment centre adds to the existing two-screen Prestige Cinema, each with a seating capacity of 229.
Confirming the completion of the renovations, Primrose Management Managing Director Jitesh Upadhyay said the firm anticipates continued recovery in Kenya’s retail sector, particularly driven by increased demand for leisure experiences. “We believe the retail sector is bouncing back. With support from NCBA Bank, we’ve invested over Kshs 200 million in facility upgrades and an equivalent amount in launching Playza to provide a holistic shopping and entertainment environment,” he said.
Prestige Plaza, which marked its 20th anniversary last year, has seen a shift towards modernisation as part of efforts to attract contemporary consumers. The upgrades also made room for new tenants such as Home & Beyond, Azone Appliances, Bata, Aga Khan Medical Centre, and Prestige Palm Banquet Hall. Existing tenants—including Naivas, Rossetti, and the Food Patio—remain operational.
The revamped mall has also achieved 98% tenant occupancy, according to Jimmy Ngugi, Commercial Director at GOInvest Property Consultants Limited, which manages the mall. “With the new layout, features, and a vibrant tenant mix, we’re already seeing increased footfall and a better customer experience,” Ngugi said.
The renovations position Prestige Plaza as a competitive player in Nairobi’s retail and leisure space at a time when the commercial real estate sector is showing signs of renewed momentum.
