Safaricom Foundation has invested Kes 4 million in a fully equipped computer laboratory at Ilikiremisho Primary & Junior School in Kajiado Central, Kajiado County, benefiting more than 253 learners.
The facility, unveiled on August 14, 2025, features 35 computers, a printer, a projector, and Safaricom’s 4G internet connectivity. It is intended to boost digital literacy, support curriculum implementation, and promote equal access to technology in the semi-arid county, where ICT facilities remain limited.
“Safaricom Foundation is committed to leveraging technology to transform lives. It is essential to equip our learners with digital skills to enable them to be future-ready to meet market demands driven by technology. Our Foundation also upskills teachers in digital learning at Teacher Training Colleges to ensure that they mould our learners with the requisite skills to address any existing gaps,” said Joseph Ogutu, Safaricom Foundation Chairman.
The new lab marks the latest in a series of education investments by the Foundation in Kajiado, spanning primary, secondary, and technical institutions. Previous projects include the construction and equipping of learning facilities at Okejuado Secondary School, Oltepesi Primary School, and Kajiado West Technical Vocational and Training Centre.
Headteacher John Kasaine said the facility will transform teaching at the school. “Before receiving this lab, we only taught theory lessons, but now we can use practical lessons to teach the learners, giving them an advantage in exploring new opportunities, keeping up with the current world, and preparing for future employment.”
Since its inception, Safaricom, through its Foundations, has invested more than Kes 94 million in education projects in Kajiado County. The latest investment aligns with Kenya’s broader push to integrate digital skills into the school curriculum, narrowing the gap between rural and urban access to technology and preparing learners for a technology-driven economy.
