LG Electronics (LG) East Africa has welcomed a delegation of students from the LG-KOICA Hope TVET College in Ethiopia for a four-day immersive educational tour of its Nairobi regional offices, aimed at enhancing technical skills through practical industry exposure.
The visit is part of a broader partnership between LG and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to strengthen vocational education in East Africa. Established in 2021 in Addis Ababa, the LG-KOICA Hope TVET College offers advanced training in electronics, IT, and customer service—sectors that are increasingly driving economic growth across Africa.
During their stay, the eight students will interact with LG’s marketing, product management, and customer service departments. They will also visit distributor showrooms, authorised service centres, and warehouses to gain first-hand insight into the operations of a leading electronics company.
“This visit is designed to give students a hands-on experience and help them grow as professionals. We are confident that their tour of our facilities in Nairobi and their interactions with our teams will offer differentiated practical education and field experience opportunities unique to LG,” said LG East Africa President, Mr. Donghun Lee.
UNESCO research shows that students who participate in industry-based learning are more likely to secure employment, while companies hosting interns benefit from faster recruitment and onboarding processes. LG says this initiative aligns with its commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable skills development across the continent.
In addition to supporting TVET programs, LG has invested in setting up technical labs in schools, sponsoring scholarships, and running job placement initiatives with local partners. Mr. Lee added that the company hopes the students will leave “with greater clarity about their career paths and the confidence to innovate in their future roles.”
