PGK Equator Golf Tour Tees Off at Mt. Kipipiri Golf & Resort, Nyandarua County

The third leg of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour has commenced at the Mt. Kipipiri Golf & Resort in Nyandarua County, bringing together over 43 professional golfers from across the region for four days of competition from August 14 to 17.

Supported by corporate sponsors, the tour aims to raise the standard of competitive golf in Kenya by taking the game to diverse courses and challenging players to adapt to varying conditions. The first two legs were staged at Ruiru Sports Club and Limuru Country Club.

Safaricom, a key sponsor of the tour, is fielding four golfers—Mutahi Kibugu (Nyeri Golf Club), Mohit Mediratta (Sigona Golf Club), Samuel Njoroge (Railways Golf Club), and Matthew Wahome (Nyali Golf & Country Club)—who were selected through a draw to represent the Safaricom Corporate Team during the eight-month Equator Tour and other PGK-sanctioned tournaments this season.

“As the third leg of the PGK Equator Tour begins, our commitment to nurturing and promoting golf in Kenya remains unwavering. This tour provides these golfers an opportunity to compete at the highest level, inspires the next generation of golfers, and creates economic opportunities within our communities,” said Dr. Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC.

The second leg at Limuru Country Club saw Greg Snow clinch victory with a total score of 276, finishing 12 under par. Njoroge Kibugu placed second at 10 under par with 278, while Safaricom-sponsored Mediratta finished third at eight under par with 280, narrowly ahead of Gaita Rodell and John Karichu, who tied for fourth at 281.

Throughout the tour, Safaricom-sponsored golfers receive branded golf kits, monthly airtime, a device, and incentive cash prizes for series winners. They also benefit from financial literacy sessions, gym training, mental coaching, and simulator-based performance analysis to sharpen their skills.

The PGK Equator Tour is part of PGK’s Player Development Plan, which offers mentorship and training to equip emerging golfers with the discipline, skills, and exposure needed to compete at both local and international levels.
