KRA Hosts Citizen Assembly in Nakuru

KRA chairman Nderitu Muriithi addresses attendees to KRA's Nakuru Citizen Assembly convened to promote open dialogue, constructive feedback and inform service improvements.

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has hosted a Citizen Assembly in Nakuru County, bringing together entrepreneurs, business owners, and community representatives for a public dialogue on tax administration and service delivery.

Speaking during the forum, KRA Board Chairman Hon. Ndiritu Muriithi emphasised the Authority’s focus on building a taxpayer-centered approach to revenue mobilization.

“We recognise that sustainable revenue mobilization can only be achieved through collaboration with taxpayers. By listening and responding to your feedback, we aim to improve accessibility, simplify services and build trust between KRA and the people we serve,” said Hon. Muriithi.

He further noted that KRA is accelerating the rollout of digital solutions, expanding local service touchpoints, and introducing customer-friendly processes to ease tax compliance for both businesses and individuals nationwide.

In his remarks, KRA’s Acting Commissioner for Micro and Small Taxpayers, Mr. George Obel, highlighted the Authority’s efforts to broaden service accessibility across diverse taxpayer segments, especially small enterprises, the informal sector, and the emerging digital economy.

“We have enhanced our service offering from the iTax portal, to web, and now to USSD. Taxpayers can now easily access a range of services such as PIN retrieval and PIN checker, some of the most sought-after services, simply by dialling *222# and selecting option 5 for KRA services,” said Mr. Obel.

He added that the Authority is expanding its service touchpoints to ensure that taxpayers can receive KRA support closer to where they operate. The new solutions also cater to both smartphone and non-smartphone users, since the USSD code is free and accessible nationwide.

Participants at the forum appreciated KRA for creating platforms for direct engagement, noting that such sessions build trust and promote awareness about tax compliance.

Present at the assembly were senior officials including Ms. Winfrida Wanjiku Ngumi, Chairperson of the Kenya National Highways Authority; Mr. Genesio Mugo, Chairperson of the Kenya Dairy Board; Hon. Cornelly Serem, Chairperson of the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA); KRA Board Director Mr. Richard Ndungu; AFA CEO Dr. Bruno Linyiru, OGW; KRA Commissioner for Shared Services Ms. Nancy Ng’etich, MBS; and Ag. Commissioner for Business Strategy, Technology & Enterprise Modernization Mr. Alex Mwangi.

KRA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining open dialogue with taxpayers through a series of engagements across the country. These interactions are designed to strengthen partnerships, foster transparency, and ensure that tax services remain responsive to the diverse needs of businesses and citizens.
