SHA Releases Updated List of Approved Rehab Centres in Kenya

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has published a new list of rehabilitation centres that are eligible to receive insurance payments for addiction treatment under Kenya’s reformed national health coverage framework. The update is crucial for families seeking rehabilitation services that can be financed through SHA rather than out-of-pocket payment.

The newly listed centres span Nairobi, Kiambu, and Kericho counties. Their appearance on the SHA-approved list means that the Authority recognizes them as eligible service providers for insured drug and substance abuse treatment, enabling patients to access care with financial support from the government pool.

The updated list includes five facilities:

  1. Palm Tree House Limited – Rehabilitation Centre (Kericho)
    Application No. CN-12019 | KEPH Level 3B
Now approved for SHA-covered treatment, making it a key option for insured patients in Kericho and neighbouring counties.
  2. Nobility House Limited Rehabilitation Centre (Kiambu)
    Application No. CN-28137 | KEPH Level 3B
Eligible for SHA payment for inpatient rehabilitation, easing the financial burden for families seeking long-term treatment.
  3. Nueva Esperanza Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre Ltd (Kiambu)
    Application No. CN-29315 | KEPH Level 3B
The approval means patients can now access its recovery programs with SHA support.
  4. The Phoenix Rehabilitation Centre Limited (Kiambu)
    Application No. CN-42050 | KEPH Level 3A
Included in the list of centres authorized to offer SHA-covered rehab services.
  5. Brightside Drug Abuse Rehabilitation & Treatment Centre (Nairobi)
    Application No. CN-46426 | KEPH Level 3B
A major boost for Nairobi-based families seeking covered rehabilitation care.

Unlike regulatory licensing by the Ministry of Health, which assesses compliance and operating standards, SHA approval specifically determines where the insurance scheme can legally pay for treatment. This ensures beneficiaries can seek rehabilitative care without risking denial of claims or unexpected out-of-pocket expenses.

The release of the updated list comes as demand for substance abuse treatment continues to rise amid growing addiction cases linked to alcohol, hard drugs, and emerging synthetic substances. For many households, rehabilitation costs—often running into tens of thousands per month—are a key barrier to accessing help. The new SHA-approved centres therefore expand the network of facilities where insured Kenyans can receive funded treatment.

SHA has encouraged the public to verify approval status on its official platforms before admission, noting that only centres on its current list are eligible for reimbursement under the national scheme. More facilities are expected to be reviewed and added as part of ongoing updates.
