KDF Personnel Under Probe After Major Meth Interception Operation

KDF on Boat

The Kenya Defence Forces have issued a statement addressing allegations that some personnel may have stolen part of a major drug consignment seized during a joint security operation. The operation, conducted on 25 October 2025, involved a multi-agency team that intercepted a dhow off the Kenyan coast carrying 1,024 kilograms of methamphetamine.

According to the KDF, the seizure was executed jointly by security agencies working together to curb narcotics trafficking. The drugs were moved ashore and secured under the oversight of the multi-agency team. Claims then emerged suggesting that some KDF personnel involved in the operation may have taken a portion of the drugs for personal gain.

In its statement, the KDF said the full 1,024 kilograms of methamphetamine remains intact under continuous protection by a dedicated security detail. The military emphasised that the consignment has not been tampered with and remains in the custody of authorised agencies.

The personnel accused of wrongdoing are under investigation by the relevant authorities. KDF noted that if any of the allegations are confirmed, the officers involved will face both disciplinary action and legal proceedings as required by law.

The statement reinforces the commitment of the Kenya Defence Forces to support national security operations and maintain integrity within its ranks as investigations continue.
