Safaricom’s Shangwe @25 consumer promotion has produced five more millionaires as the campaign continues to reward customers across the country. The latest winners are Hannah Ngige from Komarock in Nairobi, Wellington Juma from Kisumu, Taala Chelanga from Elgeyo Marakwet, Elizabeth Wairimu from Thika and Sheila Cheptoo from Bomet. Each received Kes 1 million, bringing the total number of millionaires in the promotion to ten since it began last month.

Every millionaire also receives an additional Kes 250,000 to support a community initiative of their choice.

During the award event held at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi, Safaricom also gifted customers through the Green Box mechanic. The winners expressed gratitude for the life-changing rewards, citing the difficult economic environment.

Komarock resident and mother of two, 56-year-old Hannah Ngige said the surprise win came at the perfect time. She plans to invest in her second-hand goods business and start tomato farming in Kimana, Loitoktok. For her community project, she intends to provide beddings to the maternity wing at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

Clinical officer Wellington Juma from Chulaimbo Health Centre in Kisumu said he initially thought the call informing him of the win was fraudulent. He will now complete his house under construction and expand his small clinic, while supporting a widows’ group in Ahero as his community initiative.

In Bomet, 25-year-old poultry farmer and mother of one, Sheila Cheptoo said she plans to grow her business to large-scale operations and support her siblings’ school fees. Her community project will benefit Kitoben Primary Children’s Home through provision of beddings and food.

Also 25, and a mother of two from Elgeyo Marakwet, winner Taala Chelanga said she plans to buy land and build a home for her family. “I do not know how a million looks like. This is a miracle,” she said.

For shopkeeper and mother of four, Elizabeth Wairimu from Thika, the win will enable her to expand her kiosk and build rental units to boost household income. Her community project will support Twiga Primary School in Juja with textbooks.

The promotion is also rewarding small registered businesses. Four enterprises using Lipa Na M-PESA services have won Bajaj tricycles to support business logistics. They include Sakifarm Limited in Nairobi, Millys The Redbeet Fresh Mart in Voi, Tito Busienei Koiyet in Eldoret and Carrix Media Group Limited in Kiambu.

Another four businesses have won Kes 250,000 worth of stock each. They are EBEE Mobility Kenya Limited in Homabay, Justus Kiprono Koros Hardware in Kericho, insurance broker Robert Nyakundi Ayuka in Kisii and Taifa Sacco Limited in Nyeri.

In the medium and large enterprise categories, Moringa School, the European Union and the United Nations Federal Credit Union were each awarded Kes 500,000 to support their corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Shangwe @25 continues to reward thousands of winners daily and weekly with cash, data bundles, devices and business support tools. More than 50,000 customers win each week. Over the campaign period, more than five million customers are expected to receive prizes valued at Kes 250 million.

Participation is open to customers who transact on M-PESA, send money, pay with M-PESA, redeem Bonga Points or purchase Safaricom products such as data bundles, voice bundles, digital services or Home Fibre. Merchants and M-PESA agents qualify through transactions of Kes 1,000 and above on Buy Goods and Pochi la Biashara.
