The iconic Sovereign Hotel in Kisumu’s upscale Millimani area has undergone a major transition, coming under new management and rebranding as Le Sovereign Suites. The luxurious hotel, now owned by Nairobi-based businessman Sam Wakiaga, is set to undergo significant upgrades aimed at transforming it into a six-star facility.
Wakiaga, who has taken on the role of the hotel’s chairman, expressed his vision to position Le Sovereign Suites as a premier destination within the Western Kenya tourism circuit. “The potential in this region is immense,” Wakiaga noted, emphasizing the hotel’s strategic location near the Impala Sanctuary and just a 15-minute drive from Kisumu International Airport. He also highlighted plans to tap into the East African Community market, given its vast potential.
The hotel is expected to play a crucial role in job creation, with Wakiaga emphasizing a commitment to employing both Gen Z individuals and experienced professionals to ensure quality service and training for the younger generation. He encouraged more investors to explore the opportunities in the region, pointing out that the market is ripe for further development.
Le Sovereign Suites boasts 35 deluxe rooms, meticulously designed to offer unparalleled comfort and luxury. According to General Manager Maurice Lusambili, the rooms include single, double, and twin options, along with Lakeview rooms. Each room spans at least 44 square meters and features a lounge, office space, and a small balcony. Modern amenities such as king-sized beds, flat-screen TVs, air conditioning, mini-bars, and luxurious bathrooms with rain showers or bathtubs are standard.
Dining at Le Sovereign Suites is a top-tier experience, with a master restaurant serving a diverse menu that includes French, Italian, Indian, and African cuisine. For those seeking a unique culinary experience, the hotel offers a Japanese dining area where guests can enjoy teppanyaki cooked live or freshly prepared sushi. The extensive wine list is carefully curated to complement every meal.
The Legends Bar and Lounge, a cocktail bar with a nostalgic jazz-age vibe, offers a wide selection of cocktails, wines, and spirits. For relaxation, guests can unwind at the 12-meter-long pool or indulge in the mini spa, which includes a steam room, massage, and beauty treatments.
Le Sovereign Suites also caters to business and event needs, with conference and banqueting facilities that include both indoor and outdoor venues accommodating up to 150 people. Lusambili highlighted the Hibiscus Hall as an ideal setting for conferences, weddings, and informal events, supported by a specialized events team to ensure seamless organization.
With its blend of luxury, strategic location, and a commitment to top-notch service, Le Sovereign Suites is poised to become a landmark destination in Kisumu and beyond.
