As of 2023, Safaricom has revised its Mpesa withdrawal and sending charges to align with the newly imposed excise duties outlined in the Finance Act. Mpesa, launched in 2007 by Vodafone for Safaricom, remains one of the most widely used mobile money transfer services in Kenya. It enables users to send money both locally and globally, offering Kenyans convenient financial services.
Mpesa allows individuals to carry out transactions, store money, and make payments through their mobile phones. To register or transact at an Mpesa agent, a customer must present an original identification document such as a National ID, Passport, Military ID, or Alien ID/Foreigner Certificate. Currently, the daily maximum transaction limit for Mpesa users is Ksh 500,000, with a single transaction limit of Ksh 250,000.
