The stage is set for the highly anticipated final leg of the 2024 LOOP Safari Gravel Series, scheduled for Saturday, August 24th, at the picturesque Vipingo Ridge in Kilifi County. This race promises to be a spectacular conclusion to a series that has captivated cycling enthusiasts across the globe.

The 2024 LOOP Safari Gravel Series, which began earlier this year at Tatu City in February, has seen riders traverse some of Kenya’s most challenging terrains. After the second leg in the hills of Iten in March, the series gained international acclaim by hosting the first-ever UCI Gravel Series event at Hell’s Gate in June, drawing over 1,000 cyclists from America, Europe, and Africa. Now, the series comes full circle with the final showdown at Vipingo Ridge, where cyclists will navigate the rugged gravel roads surrounded by breathtaking coastal views.

Speaking during a ceremony to celebrate the winners of the Naivasha leg, Eric Muriuki, CEO of LOOP DFS, expressed his excitement for the grand finale. “The LOOP Safari Gravel Race Series has provided an excellent platform for our riders to showcase their skills and determination. We are proud to celebrate the Naivasha winners and eagerly anticipate the final leg in Vipingo. With its unique course and scenic beauty, Vipingo will offer an unforgettable finale to this remarkable series. We invite all the winners and cycling enthusiasts to join us for this exciting conclusion of the first season of the series,” said Muriuki.

During the Naivasha leg, a total of 10 professional cyclists in the 120 km LOOP category, both men and women, along with three top-performing clubs, were awarded for their outstanding performances. Black Mamba Development Squad, Ariya Finergy Solar Vortex, and Kenyan Riders took home prize money of KES 150,000, KES 100,000, and KES 75,000, respectively. In the men’s category, Jordan Schleck, Eric Muhoza, and Edwin Kieya secured the top three positions, while Xaveline Nirere, Claudette Nyirahabimana, and Mary Aleper dominated the women’s category, each earning significant cash rewards.

Jordan Schleck, winner of the men’s 120 km LOOP category, reflected on the challenge and rewards of the Naivasha race. “The Naivasha leg of the series was both challenging and rewarding. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to refine my skills and compete with fellow enthusiasts,” said Schleck.

The Vipingo race is expected to be a highlight of the series, offering a grueling yet exhilarating course that will test the endurance and skill of every participant. Hanifa Said, a member of Team AMANI, emphasized the significance of this final race. “As Team AMANI, we congratulate all the winners and look forward to having them compete in the last leg of the series in Vipingo for a perfect finale to this thrilling series. The previous legs have highlighted endurance, skill, and sportsmanship. We are certain the Vipingo leg will provide an unforgettable experience for all participants,” she remarked.

The LOOP Safari Gravel Series, organized by the AMANI Project, has garnered significant support from various corporate sponsors. Huawei Kenya has been a key sponsor, providing prize money for both the Naivasha and Vipingo legs as well as the overall series rewards. The series features three categories: a 20 km race for amateurs, a 60 km LOOP for cycling enthusiasts, and a 120 km LOOP for professional cyclists, attracting both local and international talent.
