County Sacco, originally known as Rukuriri Tea Growers Savings & Credit Cooperative Society, was established in 1991 under the Cooperative Societies Act (Cap 490) to serve tea farmers affiliated with Rukuriri Tea Factory, Mungania, and Kathangariri Tea Factories. Over the years, the Sacco has evolved into one of Kenya’s largest deposit-taking Saccos, offering a wide range of financial services beyond the tea industry.
In 2011, the Sacco was licensed by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) to accept deposits from the general public, marking its transition to County Sacco. This rebranding reflected its ambition to expand its services to all counties across Kenya, hence the name “County Sacco.”
With an asset base of Kshs 0.68 billion, County Sacco has established itself as a leading financial institution, supporting its members in various sectors, from agriculture to business.
