Afya Sacco, established on May 8, 1971, is one of Kenya’s largest and most trusted deposit-taking Saccos. Afya Sacco Membership Eligibility
Afya Sacco membership is open to individuals working within the health sector and related organizations. Specifically, the following groups are eligible for membership:
- Employees of the Ministry of Health and other government ministries or parastatals.
- Employees of Afya Co-operative Savings and Credit Society and its subsidiaries.
- Staff of Nurses and Midwives Council of Kenya.
- Workers in quasi-government institutions under the Ministry of Health, such as:
- KEMRI (Kenya Medical Research Institute)
- KETRI (Kenya Trypanosomiasis Research Institute)
- Kenyatta National Hospital
- Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC)
- Employees of health-related organizations registered in Kenya.
- Past members who previously resigned but still hold shares in Afya Investments Co-operative Society Limited.
- Retired members, who are allowed to retain their membership as long as they continue making monthly contributions of Kshs 3,000.
How to Become a Member of Afya Sacco
Becoming a member of Afya Sacco is a straightforward process, with a few key steps and requirements:
- Complete the Membership Application Form: Prospective members must fill out the prescribed membership form and attach the following:
- A photocopy of your latest payslip.
- Two passport-size photographs.
- A copy of your National ID.
- For Employees of Parastatals and Health-Related Organizations: In addition to the above documents, these applicants must obtain a commitment letter from their employer, stating the employer’s willingness to deduct the applicant’s share contributions from their salary and remit them to Afya Sacco.
- Financial Commitments:
- Members must contribute Kshs 500 in shares until they reach a total of Kshs 20,000.
- A monthly deposit of Kshs 5,000 is required.
- A one-time membership fee of Kshs 1,000.
- Additionally, Kshs 300 for the Afya Benevolent Fund.
- Submission of Forms: After completing the required forms and gathering the necessary documents, applicants should submit them to the nearest Afya Sacco branch for recommendation. The documents will then be forwarded to the headquarters for approval.
- Membership Withdrawal: Members may choose to withdraw from Afya Sacco at any time, for reasons such as resignation, retirement, or in the unfortunate event of death.
