Huawei ICT Academy Hosts Instructor Workshop in Nairobi, Kenya

Huawei ICT Academy today held a successful instructor workshop at its offices in Lavington, Nairobi. The event brought together key instructors and stakeholders from across the country, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, updates on academy programs, and a roadmap for the future of ICT education in Kenya.

Ms. Fang Zheng, Huawei’s Human Resource Director, officially opened the workshop, emphasizing the academy’s role in addressing Kenya’s ICT skill gaps. She highlighted the importance of continuous professional development for instructors, noting that it is crucial to producing top-tier ICT talent in the country.

“We believe in empowering instructors with the tools and knowledge to produce world-class ICT talent. Today’s workshop is a testament to Huawei’s long-term commitment to digital education in Kenya,” said Ms. Zheng.

The first session, led by Mr. Michael Kamau, Huawei ICT Academy Manager, and Mr. Yuta Leng, Public Relations Expert, focused on reviewing the academy’s achievements over the past year. They also introduced the upcoming Huawei ICT Competition for 2024-2025, which aims to foster innovation and technical skills among Kenyan students. The competition is designed to prepare participants for the challenges of the digital world and includes the Practice Track (Network, Cloud, and Computing Tracks) and the A.I Innovation Track. Registration is now open and free for interested students.

Participants in the ICT Competition will receive advanced training and access to Huawei’s e-learning platform, preparing them for the National Final in 2024, followed by the Regional and Global Final rounds in 2025. Huawei also announced the launch of an Instructor Competition, designed to accumulate best practice cases and promote the integration of key technologies like Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and Cloud computing. This competition will set global benchmarks for instructors and promote excellence within the academy.

The workshop also covered the academy’s key performance indicators (KPIs) for the last quarter and offered a calendar preview for the upcoming academic year. This assessment was vital in evaluating the academy’s impact on Kenya’s ICT talent pipeline and in setting clear goals for the year ahead.

A case presentation on best practices for managing professional exam centers, particularly those offering Huawei Certified ICT Professional (HCIP) and Huawei Certified ICT Expert (HCIE) certifications, was also featured. These globally recognized certifications are crucial for individuals seeking advanced careers in ICT. The session provided insights into streamlining exam processes, maintaining high standards, and improving student success rates.

Following the presentations, an open discussion was held where attendees explored ways to enhance the quality of education within the academy.

Since its inception in 2017, Huawei ICT Academy has expanded significantly, working closely with Kenyan academic institutions to train thousands of students and instructors. Through the program, students and educators gain access to Huawei’s cutting-edge technology and global expertise, building a robust talent pool for the country’s ICT sector.

The workshop concluded with a call for continued collaboration between Huawei and local educational institutions to strengthen Kenya’s ICT ecosystem. Participants were thanked for their contributions, and Huawei reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to developing ICT education in Kenya.
