Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Rachuonyo Campus, established in March 2016, is a prominent institution located within Rachuonyo Sub County Hospital, along the Oyugis-Kendu Bay Road. The campus is a product of a joint effort between the local community, the KMTC Board of Directors, the Homa Bay County Government, and Kasipul Constituency. Its primary goal is to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the region by providing quality medical education.

Courses Offered at KMTC Rachuonyo Campus

KMTC Rachuonyo Campus offers a variety of diploma and certificate courses tailored to meet the healthcare needs of the community. The courses currently available are:

  1. Certificate in Community Health Assistant
    • Requirements: KCSE Mean Grade C-, with a C- in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences, and D+ in either Physics/Physical Sciences, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
    • Duration: 2 years
  2. Certificate in Health Records and Information Technology
    • Requirements: KCSE Mean Grade C-, with a C- in English or Kiswahili and D in Biology/Biological Sciences. D- in Mathematics and D+ in one of the following: Physics/Physical Sciences, Chemistry, General Science, Computer Studies, Agriculture, Home Science, Economics, Geography, Commerce, or Business Studies.
    • Duration: 2 years
  3. Diploma in Health Promotion
    • Requirements: KCSE Mean Grade C (Plain), with a C- in English or Kiswahili and a D+ in Biology/Biological Sciences. A D in any of the following: Mathematics, Chemistry, Home Science, Agriculture, Physics, or Physical Science.
    • Duration: 3 years
  4. Upgrading of Health Records and Information Technology
    • Requirements: Certificate in Health Records and Information Technology.
    • Duration: 2 years

Facilities at KMTC Rachuonyo Campus

The campus has invested in modern facilities to ensure that students receive a well-rounded education. These include:

  • Computer Lab: Equipped with state-of-the-art computers to enhance digital learning and IT skill acquisition.
  • Skills Lab: A specialized facility where students can practice hands-on medical procedures, crucial for their professional training.

  • Plans for Expansion: The campus is leasing seven additional rooms from the Homa Bay County Government and aims to acquire an administration block.

KMTC Rachuonyo Campus students undergo clinical training in collaboration with Rachuonyo Level 4 Hospital, the main teaching facility. Additionally, students gain experience from numerous other healthcare facilities across Kenya, including:

  • Siaya County Referral Hospital
