Kakamega County, one of the four counties in the former Western Province, is a vibrant region rich in agricultural activities and cultural diversity. Covering an area of 3,034 square kilometers, Kakamega is home to 12 constituencies, each divided into smaller electoral units known as wards. In total, there are 60 wards in the county, each represented by a Member of County Assembly (MCA).

Following the 2022 general election, a diverse mix of leaders was elected to represent the various wards in Kakamega County. These MCAs, elected from different political parties, play a critical role in ensuring the needs of their respective electorates are addressed within the county government.

Roles and Responsibilities of MCAs

MCA Salaries in Kenya

In addition to their responsibilities, MCAs are compensated according to the guidelines provided by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). As of 2022, each MCA earns a total monthly salary of Ksh 144,375, which includes:

  • Basic Salary: Ksh 86,625
  • House Allowance: Ksh 45,000
  • Market Adjustment: Ksh 12,750

The SRC’s efforts to rationalize salaries have been designed to ensure that public servants, including MCAs, receive competitive pay while adhering to the principles of fiscal responsibility.
