Huawei Kenya Kicks Off ICT Competition Roadshow to Recruit Top Tech Talent

Huawei holds ICT Competition registration roadshow at KU, targets over 7,000 participants

Huawei Kenya recently hosted its second ICT Competition roadshow at Kenyatta University, aiming to recruit over 7,000 students across Kenya to participate in the 2024-2025 Huawei ICT Competition. This nationwide campaign seeks to attract bright students from universities and technical colleges to showcase their technology skills in one of Huawei’s flagship talent programs. The competition provides a platform for students to engage with cutting-edge technologies, explore innovative solutions, and prepare for future careers in tech.

Michael Kamau, Partnerships and Corporate Affairs Manager and Head of Huawei ICT Academy in Kenya, encouraged students to participate, emphasizing the program’s role in shaping Kenya’s digital landscape: “We are committed to equipping the next generation of tech leaders with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the digital era. The ICT competition offers students a unique opportunity to work with the latest technologies while tackling real-world challenges.”

A Platform for Hands-On Learning and Innovation

The Huawei ICT Competition is designed to bridge Kenya’s digital skills gap by cultivating talent and fostering innovation. Through practical challenges in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and network security, participants gain valuable experience that can propel them into rewarding tech careers. With increasing participation each year, the program has become a key component of Huawei’s strategy to nurture digital talent in Kenya.

The roadshow at Kenyatta University provided hands-on demonstrations and workshops, attracting hundreds of students eager to learn more about the competition. Huawei Kenya representatives, Kenyatta University faculty, and previous competition participants were present to offer insights and share success stories about how the competition has positively impacted their careers.

Opportunities for Career Growth and Global Exposure

Participating students have the opportunity to represent Kenya at the global finals, network with industry experts, and access potential internships and job placements at Huawei or other top ICT companies. Winners at the national level receive certificates, gadgets, and other prizes, providing tangible rewards for their achievements.

Registration Details and Upcoming Roadshow Stops

Students interested in joining the ICT Competition can register through the Huawei ICT Academy portal. Huawei will also provide preparatory workshops and boot camps to help students enhance their knowledge before the competition begins. Following Kenyatta University, the roadshow will visit other universities, including Zetech University, Multimedia University, Embu University, and Dedan Kimathi University, in the coming weeks.

Huawei’s Broader Commitment to Kenya’s Digital Transformation

Beyond the ICT Competition, Huawei Kenya has been instrumental in supporting Kenya’s digital transformation journey. Initiatives like Seeds for the Future, Smart Cities projects, and collaborations with local universities underscore Huawei’s commitment to developing ICT talent and strengthening Kenya’s position as a technology hub in the region.
