President William Ruto has accepted the resignation of Professor Olive Mugenda as the Chairperson of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) Board, effective immediately. The resignation marks the end of a significant chapter in the governance of one of Kenya’s premier medical institutions.
In a statement issued by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, the President commended Professor Mugenda for her notable contributions to the growth and development of KUTRRH during her tenure. He expressed gratitude for her leadership and service, which helped shape the institution into a key pillar of Kenya’s healthcare system.
Following Professor Mugenda’s resignation, the government has taken swift action to ensure stability and effective governance at KUTRRH. Among the key decisions announced were the disbandment of the entire KUTRRH Board and the initiation of a process to reconstitute it.
Leadership Changes at KUTRRH
Significant changes have also been introduced in the hospital’s leadership:
- Mr. Ahmed Dagane, the CEO, has been directed to proceed on indefinite leave.
- Dr. Zainab Gura has been appointed as the Acting CEO of KUTRRH.
- Mr. Isaac Kamau, who was recently appointed by the now-disbanded board as Acting CEO, has been relieved of his duties. He has been directed to report to the Ministry of Health Headquarters.
The leadership overhaul is expected to enhance the hospital’s operational efficiency and strengthen its role in delivering quality healthcare services to Kenyans.
KUTRRH is one of Kenya’s flagship healthcare institutions, and its leadership plays a critical role in driving the country’s healthcare agenda. The governance reforms initiated by President Ruto reflect the administration’s commitment to ensuring accountability, transparency, and improved service delivery in public health institutions.
These changes come amidst ongoing efforts to modernize Kenya’s healthcare sector, which has been a key focus of the government. With new leadership in place, KUTRRH is expected to continue providing world-class medical services and further its contributions to research and innovation in the healthcare space.
