Spiro Selected for 2025 Climate Project Pipeline

Bike and Swap Station

Spiro, a fast-growing Pan-African electric mobility company, has been selected for the prestigious 2025 Regional Platforms for Climate Projects (RPCP) Pipeline, an initiative spearheaded by the UN Climate Champions to spotlight and mobilize capital for high-impact climate ventures across the Global South.

This recognition places Spiro among a curated cohort of climate leaders working to accelerate low-carbon transitions in developing economies—reinforcing its role as a regional driver of sustainable transport, inclusive jobs, and clean energy innovation.

Founded in 2022, Spiro has rapidly established itself as the largest vertically integrated electric two-wheeler company in Africa, now operating in eight countries:
Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Benin, Togo, Tanzania, and Cameroon.

Its model is comprehensive and commercially robust, encompassing:

  • Electric motorbike sales via distribution partners and financiers
  • Battery-as-a-Service through an expanding network of battery swap stations
  • After-sales services, spare parts, and repairs
  • Data monetization via analytics and licensing to urban planners, logistics firms, and insurers

To date, Spiro has:

  • Deployed 35,000+ electric motorbikes
  • Completed over 20 million battery swaps
  • Enabled over 500 million kilometres of emission-free travel
  • Avoided 30,000 tons of CO₂ emissions

Beyond environmental impact, Spiro is emerging as a social and economic force multiplier in the green economy:

  • The company has created 1,000+ direct and indirect jobs, with women comprising over 40% of its workforce
  • Manufacturing and assembly operations span Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, and Rwanda
  • The Spiro Academy is training the next generation of technicians and mobility engineers, bridging talent gaps in the clean-tech ecosystem

“Our vision isn’t just about electrifying transport—it’s about transforming economies, empowering youth, and creating sustainable jobs across Africa,” said a company spokesperson.

Spiro’s growth trajectory is underpinned by solid financials:

  • 2024 revenue stood at USD 23 million
  • The company is projecting USD 200 million in 2025, a tenfold increase
  • It has already raised USD 120 million in equity and USD 23 million in debt

To meet its ambitious expansion targets, Spiro is currently raising USD 50 million in Series A funding to scale operations, expand into new markets, and invest in R&D and technological innovation—including smart battery tech, fleet management software, and mobility-as-a-service platforms.

Selection into the Regional Platforms for Climate Projects (RPCP) is both symbolic and strategic. It opens access to:

  • Curated investor visibility through the UN Climate Champions Team and their partners
  • Exposure at major global climate finance events, including the lead-up to COP30
  • Networking opportunities with institutional investors, DFIs, philanthropies, and green tech accelerators

The RPCP pipeline plays a catalytic role in aligning high-growth climate solutions with the billions in capital being mobilized to meet SDG and Paris Agreement goals across emerging markets.

Africa’s mobility sector is undergoing a quiet revolution. With urbanization, rising fuel costs, and the urgency of decarbonization, electric two-wheelers offer a fast, scalable solution to cut emissions, lower transport costs, and create circular economies in battery production, data services, and clean energy logistics.

Spiro’s selection into the RPCP comes at a pivotal moment when Africa’s share of global climate finance remains below 3%, despite being the region most vulnerable to climate shocks.

“Spiro’s business model is proof that climate action, commercial success, and social inclusion can be achieved simultaneously—and at scale,” said one of the High-Level Champions’ advisors.

As Kenya and other African countries accelerate policies to support e-mobility—such as duty waivers for electric vehicles and plans for localized battery manufacturing—Spiro’s momentum represents a blueprint for sustainable transport innovation across the continent.
