The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has issued a public notice directing all providers of ambulance services and emergency care personnel in Kenya to register with the Council before the 15th of September 2025.
The directive, issued pursuant to the Health Act, 2017 and the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act (Cap 253), seeks to standardize emergency medical services nationwide, improve pre-hospital care, and enhance patient safety during medical emergencies.
Who Must Register
The registration requirement applies to:
- All ambulances, regardless of ownership, offering emergency medical services in Kenya.
- All emergency care personnel/technicians, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), ambulance operators, and other healthcare workers delivering pre-hospital care.
Why Registration Is Mandatory
According to KMPDC, the move aims to:
- Standardize emergency care services across the country.
- Enhance the quality and safety of pre-hospital healthcare.
- Support the operationalization of the Social Health Authority’s Emergency, Critical Care, and Chronic Illness Fund.
This initiative is expected to improve coordination between hospitals, emergency responders, and ambulance providers, ensuring faster and safer care for patients in critical conditions.

Deadline for submission: 15th September 2025
Penalties for Non-Compliance
KMPDC has warned that failure to register by the deadline will result in sanctions, including:
- Prohibition from operating ambulances.
- Suspension from providing emergency medical services.
