The Safaricom Chapa Dimba All-Stars team has officially kicked off its weeklong training camp in Spain with an exciting blend of elite football sessions, friendly matches, and cultural exchanges at SD Huesca’s Academy.
The camp, part of Safaricom’s Chapa Dimba Season 4 program, aims to nurture grassroots football talent in Kenya by exposing young players to international coaching standards, professional-level training facilities, and competitive academy setups in Europe.
The team began their first day with an orientation session at SD Huesca’s training facilities, followed by masterclasses led by the club’s top coaches. Later, the All-Stars joined Huesca’s U23 Academy for an intensive training session focusing on:
- Tactical drills and game intelligence
- Technical ball control and passing accuracy
- Fitness conditioning for high-intensity gameplay
- Decision-making in critical attacking and defensive situations
“We had a fantastic training session in the morning with the girls’ team, and I can see great potential in them,” said Juan Ramon Fung, Coach for SD Huesca’s U23 side.
“My focus was on teaching them how to play faster, move the ball efficiently, and make better decisions in front of goal. They are adapting quickly, and I believe many of them have what it takes to grow into top-level players.”
In the evening, the All-Stars Girls team faced SD Huesca’s U13 Boys team in a highly competitive friendly match that ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw.
The encounter tested the players’ technical ability, tactical awareness, and physical fitness against a professional academy setup, while also highlighting areas for improvement.
“Facing the U13 boys’ team was a good challenge, and I picked up a lot both from the training session and the match,” said Martha Nafula, an All-Stars forward.
“The style of training here is different from what we’re used to in Kenya, and it’s pushing me to improve my game. As a striker, I’m learning to make quicker decisions, take fewer touches, and finish chances more efficiently.”
The team continues its masterclass sessions today, focusing on modern football techniques and high-performance preparation before the boys’ side faces SD Huesca’s U23 team in an evening friendly.
Throughout the week, the players will also take part in additional friendlies against elite Spanish academy teams and participate in cultural exchange experiences, including visits to historic landmarks such as the Casco Histórico de Huesca.
The Safaricom Chapa Dimba program has become one of Kenya’s leading grassroots football development platforms, offering:
- Exposure to international training and scouting opportunities
- Structured pathways for young players to pursue professional careers
- Mentorship and coaching from top local and international experts
- Opportunities to compete against elite academy teams
By partnering with SD Huesca, Safaricom continues to invest in youth development and transform the future of Kenyan football through world-class training experiences.
