Equity Bank Digital Platforms to Undergo Maintenance September 23–24

Equity Group Managing Director and CEO Dr. James Mwangi during the Q3 Investor Briefing at Equity Centre.

Equity Bank has announced a planned system maintenance that will temporarily affect interbank money transfer services across its digital platforms.

According to the Bank, the “Send Money to Other Banks” service will be unavailable from Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 10:00 PM to Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 4:00 AM. The maintenance will affect the following channels:

  • Equity Mobile App
  • Equity Online
  • EazzyBiz
  • USSD *247#
  • Equitel

All other services, including intra-bank transfers, payments, deposits, and withdrawals, will remain available during the scheduled downtime.

Routine Upgrades for Efficiency

The bank stated that the maintenance exercise is part of its continuous digital system upgrades designed to enhance efficiency, security, and customer experience. Equity has been investing heavily in technology infrastructure as part of its strategy to remain a leader in digital banking across East Africa.

With more than 97% of all transactions now taking place outside physical branches, system reliability has become central to the bank’s operations. Such upgrades are expected to support growing transaction volumes while protecting customers from downtime and cyber threats.

Security Reminder to Customers

Alongside the maintenance notice, Equity reminded its customers to remain vigilant against fraudsters. The bank emphasized that it communicates with customers only through its official line 0763 000 000, and will never request sensitive details such as PINs, passwords, OTPs, or card information via phone or SMS.

This advisory comes at a time when digital banking platforms across Kenya are facing rising cases of attempted fraud, making customer awareness a crucial layer of protection.

Equity Bank continues to play a significant role in Kenya’s banking sector, where mobile and digital platforms are driving financial inclusion. The planned maintenance underscores the balancing act between ensuring seamless services and maintaining system security and performance.

Customers who intend to make interbank transfers are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid disruptions during the six-hour maintenance window.
