The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced two scheduled power interruptions affecting parts of Garissa County this month to facilitate critical maintenance works on the regional electricity network.
According to a notice issued by the utility, power supply will be temporarily interrupted across Garissa Town and its environs on Thursday, October 9, 2025, and again on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on both days.
The maintenance exercise, Kenya Power said, is intended to enhance the reliability and quality of electricity supply in the North Eastern Region, as part of ongoing efforts to modernize distribution infrastructure and reduce unplanned outages.
Areas Affected
The scheduled outage will affect the following key locations and surrounding neighborhoods:
- Garissa Town and its environs
- Provincial and Regional Commissioner’s Offices
- Governor and County Government Offices
- Bula Iftin, Bula Mzuri, Kunaso, and County High Area
- Garissa University and Modika Barracks
- Garissa Solar Plant
- Madogo, KBC, GO-TV, Mbalambala, Sankuri, and adjacent customers
Kenya Power assured residents and institutions that normal electricity supply will be restored promptly upon completion of the scheduled maintenance works.
Company Statement
In a public notice, Kenya Power’s North Eastern Region office emphasized that the interruptions are necessary to enable safe and efficient maintenance operations on the power grid.
“We wish to inform our customers that we will interrupt power supply to parts of Garissa County to facilitate maintenance activities geared towards improving quality and reliability of supply in the affected areas,” the company said.
The utility also expressed regret for any inconvenience that may arise and urged customers to plan accordingly during the scheduled outages.
Part of Ongoing Infrastructure Reliability Drive
The maintenance activities form part of Kenya Power’s national infrastructure reliability and upgrade program, which seeks to strengthen electricity distribution systems, particularly in counties that have experienced recurrent voltage fluctuations and power interruptions.
The North Eastern region, which includes Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera counties, has been a priority area for network improvement, including grid expansion, transformer replacement, and connection reinforcement projects aimed at supporting industrial and residential power stability.

Kenya Power advises customers in the affected areas to:
