Kenya Power has issued a notice to customers regarding scheduled maintenance that will temporarily affect electricity supply in parts of Nairobi South and Homa Bay County on Friday, 5th December 2025.

The utility company said the maintenance is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance network reliability and ensure stable power delivery to its customers. Residents, businesses, and institutions in the affected areas are advised to plan ahead to mitigate the impact of the temporary disruptions.

Nairobi South: Parklands and Surrounding Areas

In Nairobi, the maintenance work will affect parts of Parklands, including 6th Parklands, Regal Plaza, parts of Muthaiga, and sections along Limuru Road. Power supply in these areas will be interrupted between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

“Customers in Nairobi South, particularly those in Parklands and Muthaiga, should anticipate temporary outages as we carry out essential maintenance on the network. We advise households and businesses to take necessary precautions to minimize disruption,” the company said in a statement.

The maintenance in Nairobi South is expected to impact both residential and commercial establishments. Businesses that rely heavily on uninterrupted power, such as retail outlets, offices, and service providers, are encouraged to make alternative arrangements, including using backup generators or rescheduling critical operations.

Homa Bay County: Adiedo and Omboga Locations

Simultaneously, Kenya Power will conduct maintenance in Homa Bay County, affecting Adiedo and Omboga locations. Areas slated for power interruptions include Adiedo Market, Omboga Market, Yao Komoro Primary School, Rabware Primary, Opinde Primary, Oriang Market, Orire Primary, and surrounding customers. The scheduled maintenance will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The utility stressed that schools and markets, key local economic and social hubs, should prepare for potential disruption during the maintenance period. “We recognize the importance of reliable power for educational institutions and marketplaces. Our teams will work to minimize downtime and restore supply as promptly as possible,” Kenya Power noted.

Importance of Planned Maintenance

Kenya Power routinely schedules maintenance across its national grid to improve network efficiency, reduce unplanned outages, and ensure a steady and safe supply of electricity. Such interventions often involve upgrading transformers, inspecting high-voltage lines, performing system repairs, and carrying out safety checks.

Scheduled maintenance is essential to mitigate risks associated with equipment failure, prevent long-term service disruptions, and improve the overall quality of electricity supply. Kenya Power has been investing in modernizing its infrastructure, particularly in urban areas with growing power demand, and rural counties to enhance service delivery.

Advisory for Customers

Kenya Power has urged customers in the affected areas to take precautionary measures, including:

  • Ensuring backup power sources are available if operations depend on electricity.
  • Avoiding use of sensitive equipment during the maintenance window.
  • Planning work and household activities around the scheduled power interruption.

Customers experiencing prolonged outages or technical issues following the maintenance are encouraged to contact Kenya Power’s customer service hotline or use the utility’s online reporting platforms for assistance.

Outlook for Energy Sector Reliability

Kenya Power’s planned maintenance activities form part of broader initiatives to support the country’s growing electricity demand. With Kenya continuing to expand its manufacturing, ICT, and service sectors, a reliable power supply is critical to economic growth and competitiveness.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has commended Kenya Power for proactively managing the grid to prevent unplanned outages, noting that such planned interventions are preferable to emergency breakdowns, which can result in longer downtime and higher costs.
