Isuzu East Africa has officially handed over nine premium UD luxury buses to Nyamira Express, a bus operator affiliated with Guardian Coaches. The delivery marks a notable shift in Kenya’s long-distance passenger transport sector as more operators adopt high-performance fleets to strengthen nationwide mobility.
Valued at KSh150 million, the fleet investment represents the first UD CKE bus models to be sold by Isuzu East Africa for public transport operations in Kenya. The buses will be deployed on the Mombasa to Busia route, reinforcing a crucial passenger link between coastal economic zones and the western region markets.
Rita Kavashe, Chair of the Board and Managing Director of Isuzu East Africa, said the milestone underlines the power of collaboration in modernizing transport. She expressed confidence that the partnership with Nyamira Express will support more reliable and comfortable long-haul journeys for commuters.
During the event in Mombasa, UD Trucks General Manager David Were highlighted the importance of designing vehicles suited for Kenya’s roads and high-demand transit corridors. He reaffirmed UD Trucks’ commitment to enhancing safety, fuel efficiency and durability for local operators.
Nyamira Express leadership welcomed the growth opportunity that comes with expanding their fleet. Julius Mokaya, Director at Guardian Coaches, noted that the additional capacity will enhance travel experience for passengers who rely on long-distance connectivity for business and personal purposes.
The newly acquired 49-seater buses are equipped with a 350HP engine and 1200Nm torque output, giving them the strength to tackle steep gradients and extended travel cycles. They also feature ABS braking technology, air suspension systems and a suspended driver seat engineered to boost comfort and stability across diverse terrain.
The handover took place during a UD Customer Appreciation Event in Mombasa, where transport operators from the coastal region explored product features, aftersales support programs and technical insights from the manufacturer.
