A multi-agency security operation has led to the arrest of 26 suspects linked to an illegal network facilitating the unlawful and unprocedural acquisition of government documents such as National Identity Cards, passports, birth certificates and alien IDs.
The two-day operation targeted individuals accused of colluding to bypass official processes and fast-track the issuance of sensitive documents in exchange for payments. Those arrested include civil servants from the National Registration Bureau and the Directorate of Immigration, chiefs, businessmen financing the schemes and freelance middlemen.
Investigations have revealed a coordinated criminal enterprise where officers exploited their access to government systems, risking national security by enabling undocumented individuals to acquire identification documents and move into or out of the country undetected.
During the raid, detectives seized a large cache of government property hidden in residential homes. Recovered items included filled and blank national ID application forms, fingerprint equipment such as slabs and rollers, birth and death certificates, passports, official government stamps and other credential materials that should only be kept in designated state offices.
