Prospective medical and health sciences students have until January 27, 2026, to submit applications for the March 2026 intake at the Kenya Medical Training College, following the official opening of the placement window on January 7.

Applications are being processed through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service system, which allows candidates to view available programmes and submit their choices online via https://students.kuccps.ac.ke.

KMTC, which operates under the Ministry of Health, remains Kenya’s largest public training institution for middle-level health professionals, supplying a significant share of nurses, clinical officers, laboratory technologists and other frontline healthcare workers.

Application window and process

According to the placement notice, the application window runs from January 7 to January 27, 2026. All applicants must apply through the KUCCPS student portal.

Candidates are required to log into the system, review the list of KMTC programmes available under the March intake, confirm eligibility based on KCSE results, and submit their applications before the deadline.

Education officials have cautioned that applications submitted after January 27 will not be considered, as the system will close automatically at the end of the application period.

Programmes available under the March intake

The March intake typically covers a range of KMTC certificate and diploma programmes in health and medical disciplines, including nursing, clinical medicine, community health, medical laboratory sciences, pharmacy, environmental health, biomedical engineering and health records management, among others.

The intake provides an alternative entry point for applicants who may have missed the main September intake or are seeking mid-year placement.

KMTC currently operates more than 90 campuses across the country, supporting decentralised training and improved access to healthcare education.

Role of KMTC in Kenya’s healthcare workforce

KMTC plays a central role in training Kenya’s health workforce, particularly for public hospitals, health centres and community-based healthcare programmes.

The institution is a key pipeline for staffing initiatives under universal health coverage, primary healthcare expansion and community health promoter deployment.

Demand for KMTC programmes has remained strong as Kenya continues to invest in healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.

KUCCPS placement system

The use of the KUCCPS system for KMTC placement is intended to enhance transparency, efficiency and fairness in admissions.

Through the platform, applicants can compare courses, entry requirements and available campuses before making informed choices.

The system also helps align student placement with national health workforce planning needs.

What applicants should keep in mind

Prospective students are advised to review minimum subject requirements, programme duration, campus locations and accreditation status before applying.

Applicants are also encouraged to complete their applications early to avoid last-minute system congestion ahead of the January 27 deadline.

What happens next

After the application window closes, KUCCPS will process submissions and announce placement outcomes according to its published timelines.

Successful applicants will receive admission instructions from KMTC, including reporting dates, fees and campus allocation.
