Safaricom has unveiled the final five winners of KES 1 million each under its Shangwe @25 nationwide consumer promotion, bringing the total number of new millionaires created by the campaign to 25.
The final beneficiaries are Quinter Akinyi Wanyama (Bungoma), Sheila Cherotich (Bomet), Fidel Mwendwa (Kitui), Geoffrey Mawira (Meru) and Grace Nyiva (Uthiru, Nairobi). They join 20 other Kenyans whose lives have been transformed since the promotion launched in October 2025 to mark Safaricom’s 25 years of operations.
In a move that extended the campaign’s impact beyond individual households, Safaricom also awarded an additional KES 250,000 to each winner to support a community project of their choice, embedding social impact into the rewards structure.
KES 250 Million Shared With Customers Nationwide
Over the course of the Shangwe @25 promotion, more than five million Safaricom customers across the country won prizes worth a combined KES 250 million. Rewards ranged from cash prizes to electronics, household appliances, shopping vouchers, livestock, and business support tools.
Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said the campaign reflected the company’s long-standing commitment to sharing value with its customers and communities.
“We have created 25 millionaires, with more than five million customers nationwide winning prizes worth KES 250 million. This campaign reflects Safaricom’s ongoing commitment to transforming lives, empowering our customers, and supporting communities across the country,” said Ndegwa.
Stories Behind the Final Five Winners
Grace Nyiva, a 23-year-old single mother from Uthiru, Nairobi, described her win as life-changing. She supports her child by selling smokies and sausages at a local market while also working as a cleaner at a nearby club.
Grace plans to set up a cereal shop for her mother, pay school fees, and enroll in college to study IT. For her community project, she committed KES 250,000 to equip unemployed youth with salon and car wash tools to create income opportunities and reduce substance abuse.
In Webuye, Quinter Akinyi Wanyama, a 38-year-old mother of five, runs a welding workshop with her husband. She plans to expand the business, buy new equipment, and pay school fees for her children, including one in university. Her community project will support Mahanga PEFA School through the purchase of lockers, teachers’ chairs, and a printer.
Sheila Cherotich, a 21-year-old sales agent selling M-KOPA phones in Bomet County, plans to buy land and build a house for her mother, start a clothing and footwear business, and support her brother’s education. Her community fund will be used to install water tanks at Chebunyo Health Centre.
In Kitui County, Fidel Mwendwa Kavinya, a 25-year-old mechanic, plans to open his own workshop after years of working for others. His community project will support Timboni Tiva Children’s Home, providing assistance to vulnerable children.
Meanwhile in Meru County, Geoffrey Mawira Muguongo, a 52-year-old cobbler and barber living with a disability, plans to expand his workshop and invest in a shoe-making machine to employ more people with disabilities. His community initiative will purchase tents for hire to support local traders.
Business Customers Also Recognised
Beyond individual winners, Safaricom also awarded six enterprise customers with stock worth KES 250,000 each to accelerate business growth. The beneficiaries included Snaap Kenya Limited, Robstar Premium Fit Ltd, Ronak Distributors, EBee Mobility, and other SMEs.
Additionally, Almervic Hardware, Ryattah Medical Center, and Nona Millz received Tuk-Tuk pickups to support logistics and distribution.
As Safaricom marks 25 years of operations, the Shangwe @25 promotion stands out as one of the largest consumer reward campaigns in the company’s history, combining financial inclusion, community development, and enterprise support at a national scale.
