Uber Introduces Rider Promotions Ahead of HSBC SVNS and Magical Kenya Open

Uber Boda Kenya

As Kenya prepares to host major international sporting events including the HSBC SVNS and the Magical Kenya Open, Uber has introduced a rider promotion aimed at supporting affordable and reliable mobility during high-demand periods.

The HSBC SVNS tournament is expected to draw thousands of local and international rugby fans to Nyayo National Stadium, driving increased travel across key routes linking residential neighbourhoods, hospitality areas and the stadium precinct.

Large-scale sporting events typically create concentrated travel demand within specific time windows, increasing pressure on transport networks and highlighting the need for predictable mobility solutions.

Increased demand expected during tournament period

The upcoming Magical Kenya Open is also projected to increase movement across airport routes, hotels, event venues and tourism locations as Kenya continues positioning itself as a global sporting and tourism destination.

To help ease travel pressures, Uber will roll out in-app promotions designed to reduce cost barriers for both new and existing riders attending the events.

Imran Manji, General Manager and Head of East Africa at Uber, said major sporting events present unique mobility dynamics for cities.

β€œLarge-scale events like HSBC SVNS bring incredible energy to Nairobi and also create unique mobility needs across the city. Our goal is to help fans get to and from the stadium reliably and affordably, while also supporting drivers to benefit from increased demand during major event weekends,” he said.

Details of the rider promotion

The new rider promotion offers:

  • 70% off the first five trips
  • Discount capped at KES 400 per trip
  • Valid across all Uber products
  • Available until the end of May

New riders can access the promotion using the code: KENYAy4e92i1

Existing riders attending HSBC SVNS received a separate event-specific promotion through direct rider communication, offering discounted rides during the tournament period using the code: RUGBY7SKE

Uber has encouraged fans to plan trips in advance, use designated pick-up and drop-off zones, and monitor the app for real-time updates during peak movement periods.

Supporting urban mobility during major events

The initiative forms part of Uber’s broader strategy to support urban mobility during major national and international events while also enabling drivers to benefit from higher demand periods.

As Nairobi and other cities continue hosting global sporting and tourism events, technology-enabled transport solutions are increasingly playing a role in enhancing visitor experience and supporting local economic participation.
