TECNO has completed renovations on three community football fields in Nairobi, part of its pan-African Dream Field Initiative aimed at improving grassroots sports infrastructure and nurturing young talent across Africa.
TECNO has officially handed over three newly upgraded community football pitches in Nairobi, marking a significant step in its Dream Field Renovation Initiative. The completed projects include the Kinyago Football Field, Huruma Sports Ground, and Mathare Area 4 at Heide Marie Primary School, with a fourth pitch at Mlango Kubwa, Mathare, currently under renovation.
The initiative represents an investment of over KSh20 million in Nairobi alone and forms part of TECNO’s broader plan to refurbish 100 community football pitches across Africa by 2028. This effort is conducted in partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and aims to provide safe, professional-standard sporting environments for young athletes while fostering community development.
Upgrading Facilities for Grassroots Development
The renovations included the installation of high-quality artificial turf and natural grass surfaces, upgraded goal posts, seating areas, pitch branding, and safety enhancements. Prior to refurbishment, many of these facilities were dusty, uneven, and lacked basic infrastructure, limiting usability and posing safety risks for young players.
“Football is deeply rooted in African culture. It is more than just a game, it is a platform for opportunity, unity, and personal growth. Through the Dream Field Renovation Initiative, we are investing directly in communities by transforming everyday spaces into safe, professional-standard football pitches where young people can train, compete, and dream. Kenya is an important part of this journey, and we are proud to have completed three pitches, with a fourth currently underway,” said Victor Alufwani of TECNO during the handover ceremony at Kinyago Football Grounds.
Community and Youth Impact
Local coaches and community leaders welcomed the upgrades, noting improvements in safety, training quality, and player morale. Antony Ombona, a community coach, said the refurbished facilities had transformed grassroots football in the area.
“Before the renovation, training was difficult and unsafe. The dusty surface often caused injuries and discouraged consistent practice. Today, the pitch has completely transformed how our players train, compete, and believe in themselves. This facility gives our children a real opportunity to grow, not only as footballers, but as disciplined and confident individuals,” Ombona said.
Oscar Igaida, Chief Officer – Youth, Talent & Sports at Nairobi City County, added that the initiative extended beyond infrastructure, emphasizing the role of sporting facilities in shaping positive youth behaviour and engagement.
“This initiative goes beyond infrastructure. It is about building environments that encourage discipline, teamwork, and positive youth engagement. Quality sporting facilities play a critical role in shaping confident, focused, and motivated young people. We commend TECNO for investing in grassroots football and partnering with communities to create long-term impact,” he said.
Pan-African Expansion and CAF Partnership
The Dream Field Renovation Initiative is part of TECNO’s wider commitment to grassroots development across Africa, with projects underway in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. The programme complements TECNO’s broader football strategy, which ranges from community-level projects to continental partnerships.
TECNO is also the Official Global Partner of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 and 2027, a partnership that underscores its long-term dedication to developing African football. Through these initiatives, TECNO seeks to nurture emerging talent and provide platforms for young athletes to pursue professional opportunities while fostering community cohesion.
