Kenya Airways has signed a unilateral codeshare agreement with JetBlue, allowing the Kenyan airline to place its flight code on multiple US domestic routes from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, expanding travel options between East Africa and North America.

Kenya’s national carrier Kenya Airways has signed a unilateral codeshare agreement with US-based airline JetBlue in a move aimed at strengthening connectivity between East Africa and the United States.

The agreement allows Kenya Airways to place its flight code on selected JetBlue-operated services from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City and other key American cities, providing travellers with expanded access across the United States through a single booking.

Industry analysts say the partnership reflects a broader strategy by Kenya Airways to deepen international partnerships and expand its global reach through alliances with established carriers in key markets.

Expanded Network Across the United States

Under the codeshare agreement, Kenya Airways customers will be able to connect seamlessly from New York to several major US cities operated by JetBlue.

These destinations include Los Angeles, Orlando, Chicago, Phoenix, San Francisco, Raleigh-Durham, West Palm Beach, San Juan, Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta.

The arrangement will allow passengers travelling from Kenya and other East African markets to purchase a single ticket that covers both the Kenya Airways transatlantic flight and onward domestic travel within the United States.

By integrating ticketing and baggage handling across both airlines, the partnership aims to deliver smoother transfers, reduced travel complexity and improved convenience for passengers travelling between Africa and North America.

Strengthening the Nairobi–New York Corridor

The agreement builds on Kenya Airways’ existing transatlantic operations between Nairobi and New York City.

The airline currently operates four weekly flights between Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, a route that has become a critical gateway linking East Africa with the United States since its launch in 2018.

Through the new partnership, Kenya Airways will be able to extend its network reach beyond New York by tapping into JetBlue’s extensive domestic flight network.

For travellers originating from Kenya, the agreement provides easier access to multiple US destinations without requiring separate bookings or additional airline transfers.

Targeting Diaspora, Business and Leisure Travel

Kenya Airways says the expanded network is expected to benefit a wide range of travellers, including members of the African diaspora living in North America, expatriates, diplomats, leisure travellers and business passengers.

The agreement also creates new opportunities for travel agents, tour operators and online travel agencies to offer broader connectivity options to their customers.

With a growing number of African travellers flying to the United States for business, education and tourism, airlines are increasingly seeking partnerships that simplify long-haul travel and expand route networks.

Strategic Partnerships Drive Network Growth

Kenya Airways Acting Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer George Kamal said the codeshare partnership aligns with the airline’s broader strategy to strengthen global connectivity through collaboration with international carriers.

“This codeshare agreement with JetBlue represents a significant step forward in advancing our global growth strategy through meaningful and strategic partnerships,” Kamal said.

“By expanding our network through New York, we are providing our customers with more choice and seamless access to key destinations across the United States.”

Codeshare agreements allow airlines to sell seats on partner-operated flights while maintaining their own branding and booking systems, enabling carriers to expand network coverage without deploying additional aircraft.

JetBlue Expands Global Partnerships

For JetBlue, the partnership supports the airline’s strategy of expanding global connectivity through collaborations with international carriers.

JetBlue Vice President of Network Planning and Airline Partnerships Dave Jehn said the agreement will improve travel options between the United States and East Africa.

“This unilateral codeshare agreement with Kenya Airways strengthens JetBlue’s global connectivity and reinforces our strategy of building thoughtful partnerships,” Jehn said.

“We’re proud to collaborate with Kenya Airways to better connect customers to East Africa and beyond.”

JetBlue operates a large domestic network across the United States and the Caribbean, making it a valuable partner for international airlines seeking to extend their reach into the US market.

Boost for Kenya Airways’ Commercial Strategy

The codeshare arrangement forms part of Kenya Airways’ broader commercial strategy aimed at improving revenue performance through network partnerships.

The airline has increasingly relied on strategic alliances and codeshare agreements to expand market access and compete with larger international carriers that operate extensive global networks.

As a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance, Kenya Airways already benefits from partnerships with several international carriers, enabling passengers to connect to more than 1,000 destinations worldwide.

The JetBlue agreement further strengthens the airline’s connectivity in North America, a market that remains strategically important for trade, tourism and diaspora travel.

Supporting Trade and Travel Between Regions

Enhanced air connectivity between Africa and the United States is increasingly viewed as important for facilitating trade, tourism and investment flows.

Direct flights between Nairobi and New York have already reduced travel time between East Africa and the United States compared with traditional routes through Europe or the Middle East.

By expanding onward travel options within the United States, Kenya Airways hopes to attract more passengers to its transatlantic service while strengthening Nairobi’s role as a regional aviation hub.

The new codeshare partnership is expected to support Kenya Airways’ long-term strategy of expanding its international network while improving the overall travel experience for customers travelling between Africa and North America.
