Raphael Tuju Defies Auctioneers in Karen Property Dispute

Raphael Tuju

Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has declared that he will not leave his disputed property at Dari Business Park in Karen, Nairobi, saying anyone attempting to evict him will have to “kill him first.”

Tuju made the remarks while addressing the situation at the property, which has become the centre of a multi-billion shilling debt recovery dispute involving auctioneers and individuals claiming ownership of the premises.

Standoff Over Court-Sanctioned Recovery

Auctioneers are reportedly attempting to enforce a court-approved recovery process tied to debts linked to the property.

However, Tuju insists the matter remains active in court, arguing that attempts to take over the premises are premature.

According to Tuju, several individuals he identified as Mr. Chebet, Mr. Kiprono and Mr. Kiprop entered the premises claiming they had purchased the property.

He accused them of attempting to intimidate him despite the ongoing legal battle.

“They will have to kill me first and organise a big burial for me in Rarieda before they take this property,” Tuju said.

Claims of Intimidation and Conspiracy

The former Cabinet Secretary also claimed that the attempts to evict him are part of a wider effort to pressure him during the ongoing dispute.

Tuju said the actions being taken against him amount to harassment while the case remains unresolved in court.

He further linked the situation to events earlier in the week at the property that resulted in several arrests.

Allegations of Bribery Attempt

According to Tuju, individuals arrested during the incident included a former judge, a lawyer and a broker who allegedly approached him claiming they were acting on behalf of a judge in the Commercial Division of the High Court.

Tuju alleged that the trio sought money in exchange for influencing the outcome of matters related to the property dispute.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed the full details of the alleged bribery attempt.

Long-Running Property Dispute

The Karen property forms part of a long-running legal and financial battle involving billions of shillings in debt.

The dispute has drawn attention due to the scale of the debt involved and Tuju’s public resistance to efforts aimed at repossessing the property.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings and pressure from creditors, Tuju insists he will remain at the premises until the courts fully resolve the ownership and debt issues.

The standoff at Dari Business Park continues to attract public attention as the matter unfolds both in the courts and on the ground.
