SHA Releases KSh11.1 Billion to Settle SHIF Claims for Healthcare Providers

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced the release of KSh11.1 billion to settle approved claims for healthcare providers under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

According to a notice issued on March 13, 2026, the disbursement process officially began on Friday, March 15, 2026, and is expected to continue throughout the week.

SHA said the funds are being released to support healthcare providers and ensure uninterrupted delivery of quality healthcare services to the public.

Payments Being Processed in Batches

The authority explained that payments are being processed in scheduled batches to ensure a systematic and efficient transfer of funds to contracted healthcare facilities.

The disbursement cycle is projected to be fully completed by Thursday, March 19, 2026.

SHA said the structured payment approach is meant to ensure that all approved SHIF claims submitted by healthcare facilities are processed and settled within the disbursement period.

Healthcare Facilities Asked to Wait Until March 19

Healthcare facility administrators have been advised to allow the payment cycle to run its course before raising concerns about pending payments.

The authority noted that standard batch processing procedures and inter-bank clearing timelines may take time before the funds reflect in facility accounts.

Facilities have therefore been asked to wait until March 19, 2026 before making any inquiries about unpaid claims.

Support Teams to Handle Outstanding Issues

The Social Health Authority said support teams will be available beginning Friday, March 20, 2026, to assist healthcare facilities that may not receive payments for approved claims during the current cycle.

These teams will help provide clarifications and assist facilities with payment reconciliations and claim verification.

In a statement signed by Mercy Mwangangi, Chief Executive Officer of the authority, SHA thanked healthcare providers for their continued partnership in delivering healthcare services to Kenyans.

The authority also acknowledged the role played by healthcare providers in supporting the implementation of the Social Health Insurance Fund, which is part of the government’s broader healthcare reform programme.
