Affordable Housing Board to Set Up Service Desks in All Huduma Centres

The Affordable Housing Board (AHB) and Huduma Kenya have partnered to establish service desks in all Huduma Centres nationwide

Affordable Housing Board has announced plans to establish dedicated service desks across all Huduma Kenya centres nationwide, in a move aimed at simplifying access to the government’s Affordable Housing Programme.

The initiative follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two institutions, creating new access points for Kenyans seeking to own homes under the programme.

One-Stop Centres for Home Ownership Services

The new service desks will provide end-to-end support for prospective homeowners, covering the entire process from application and registration to payment and eventual allocation of housing units.

Applicants will be guided through the Boma Yangu platform, where they can register, track their applications, and make payments toward their homes.

Under the programme, buyers are required to pay a minimum deposit of five percent, followed by structured instalments before allocation of units.

Simplifying the Process for Kenyans

Speaking during the signing ceremony at Huduma Centre City Square, Acting CEO Joseph Kagicha said the partnership is designed to demystify the home acquisition process.

He noted that the presence of Affordable Housing Board staff at Huduma Centres will ensure that Kenyans receive accurate information, professional guidance, and hands-on support throughout their journey to home ownership.

The desks will be clearly branded and staffed by trained personnel equipped with digital tools to assist applicants efficiently.

Leveraging Huduma’s Nationwide Reach

Huduma Kenya CEO Ben Kai said the collaboration builds on the agency’s established reputation as a reliable access point for public services.

Huduma Centres currently offer thousands of government services and are widely distributed across the country, making them an ideal channel for expanding access to housing opportunities.

The addition of housing desks is expected to address growing demand for clear and reliable information, particularly among first-time homebuyers.

Growing Momentum in Affordable Housing Programme

The government’s Affordable Housing Programme continues to scale up, combining social housing, affordable units, and market-rate developments.

More than one million Kenyans have already registered interest through the Boma Yangu platform, reflecting strong demand for accessible home ownership solutions.

Currently, the Affordable Housing Board is overseeing the construction of 273,067 housing units across 111 constituencies.

Since 2022, over 8,800 units have been completed, signalling steady progress in efforts to reduce Kenya’s housing deficit.

Expanding Pathways to Ownership

The rollout of service desks is expected to enhance transparency, improve user experience, and accelerate uptake of housing units by making information and services more accessible.

By bringing services closer to citizens, the government aims to remove barriers that have traditionally made it difficult for many Kenyans to navigate the housing market.

The partnership also reflects a broader push to integrate public service delivery with national development programmes, ensuring that key initiatives reach citizens more effectively.
