KMTC Kilifi

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kilifi Campus, located in Kilifi Town adjacent to the Kilifi County Referral and Teaching Hospital, has established itself as a center of excellence in medical training since its inception in 1987. Initially launched through a collaboration between the Government of Kenya, the Ministry of Health, and the Swedish International Development Authority (SIDA), KMTC Kilifi started with a two-year Certificate Course in Medical Engineering. The campus has expanded over the years, introducing the Nursing Department in 2006 and several other courses by 2019.

  1. Certificate in Medical Engineering
    • Requirements: KCSE Mean Grade C-, C- in English or Kiswahili, D in Mathematics, and D- in Physics/Physical Sciences. D in any of the following: Chemistry, Biology/Biological Sciences, Electricity, Metal Work, or Technical Drawing.
    • Duration: 2 years

Diploma Programs

  1. Diploma in Medical Engineering (Upgrading)
    • Requirements: KCSE Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili, and Mathematics and Physics/Physical Sciences. C- in any of the following: Biology/Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Electricity, Metal Work, or Technical Drawing.
    • Duration: 3 years
  2. Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery
    • Requirements: KCSE Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili, and C in Biology/Biological Sciences, C- in Chemistry/Physical Sciences, and C- in any of the following: Mathematics or Physics/Physical Sciences.
    • Duration: 3 years
  3. Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN)
    • Requirements: KCSE Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences. C- in either Chemistry/Physics/Physical Sciences or Mathematics.
    • Duration: 3 years
  4. Higher Diploma in Kenya Registered Critical Care Nursing (KRCCN)
    • Requirements: Diploma in Nursing or in Community Health Nursing (KRN/KRCHN) and a minimum of one year post-graduation work experience.
    • Duration: 2 years
  5. Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nursing (KECHN)
    • Requirements: KCSE Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili and Biology/Biological Sciences. C- in either Chemistry/Physics/Physical Sciences or Mathematics.
    • Duration: 3 years

Facilities at KMTC Kilifi Campus

Clinical Training and Experience

KMTC Kilifi students benefit from close proximity to Kilifi County Referral and Teaching Hospital, where they gain hands-on experience through direct patient care. In addition to this primary facility, students are rotated through a variety of hospitals and rural health centers across Kenya, where they develop their skills under the supervision of experienced medical professionals. These practical experiences are vital in enhancing their clinical competencies and contribute significantly to their overall performance.
