Kenya Airways (KQ) is broadening its horizons in the United Kingdom, announcing the introduction of direct flights to London’s Gatwick Airport (LGW) starting 2nd July 2025. The new route will enhance connectivity between Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and the UK, providing passengers with more options and flexibility.
This addition marks a significant milestone for Kenya Airways, which will now serve the UK through two key entry points: Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Gatwick Airport (LGW).
Details of the New Gatwick Route
The Gatwick flights will operate three times a week—Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday—departing Nairobi at night and arriving in London early the following morning. This new schedule complements the existing Heathrow route, increasing the total number of weekly flights between Nairobi and London to 10.

Speaking on the announcement, Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka emphasized the strategic value of the UK market:
“The United Kingdom is essential and strategic for Kenya Airways and Kenya. It provides a gateway for trade, tourism, education, business, leisure travel, and diaspora connections. We are excited to add Gatwick Airport to our expansive network as it means that KQ guests now have more options in and out of the UK and a convenient schedule that suits their travel preferences.”
Kilavuka also hinted at the airline’s broader ambitions for the UK market, describing the Gatwick addition as “just the beginning” of Kenya Airways’ expansion plans.
Gatwick Airport, located 47.5 kilometers south of Central London in West Sussex, is a major international gateway for travelers from Southeast and South England. Its strategic location and efficient connectivity make it an attractive option for Kenya Airways’ passengers.
Travelers can book flights to Gatwick through Kenya Airways’ website, travel agents, or online travel agencies (OTAs). The new route is expected to strengthen connections between Africa and the UK, boosting trade, tourism, and diaspora engagement.
